Something To Be Said About Paying Your Bills

I am a solo practitioner and I deal with several other solo or small business people in the normal course of business. One of my standard business practices with these vendors is to always pay early, and the service I get is always top notch.

When dealing with a businessperson who also has to deal with cash management of their business or company, being known as the customer or client who pays on time or early almost always guarantees better service. Some of my clients understand this, others do not.

One of my principles of doing business is to make life easier for my clients, suppliers, and myself. By giving clients or vendors information in their terminology and in a form that works with their system, as opposed to forcing them to deal with my systems, the interaction is usually much more efficient and effort is spent doing a quality job rather than translating between systems. In general, it is very easy for me to use a different form or slightly alter my way of doing things to make their life easier.

The result is that by making a relatively small effort on my part, I can get much better results. This saves me headaches and money.

This translates into paying bills early or at least on time. Everyone has to prioritize in the normal course of business, and I am willing to pay a bill early, make some small changes to how I do business, and otherwise make life just a little easier for my vendors so that my calls are answered, my jobs are done quicker, and I can deliver a higher quality product to my clients with fewer headaches.
